Sunday Sketchbook

This week it’s all about things I’m really excited to try. There’s somewhere to go, an amazing bio material I want to experiment with and a podcast I think will be a great listen. With a little bit more time over the bank holiday weekend it’s a great chance get inspired for the summer!

Charleston

As our thoughts turn more and more to getting out and about, I thought I’d include somewhere I’d love to visit this summer. The modernist home and studio of the painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Charleston was a gathering point for some of the 20th century’s most radical artists, writers and thinkers known collectively as the Bloomsbury group. Now as well as being able to tour the house and gardens, it runs events and exhibitions throughout the year. See what they have on here.

Mycelium

Have you heard of mycelium? I’m really excited about the properties of this mushroom based material. It acts almost like an organic glue, growing around a base over the course of 1-2 weeks to create a solid object. It’s perfect for creating a useable material out of waste products in a sustainable way. This table was created by artist Richard Beckett, you can find out more about his process here. I really want to have a go - what do you think of mushroom jewellery?!

Ali Smith On Great Woman Artists

I’m so excited to listen to this podcast featuring author Ali Smith talking about the 4 artists who inspired her Seasons series. I’m a huge fan of her writing, it’s full of compassion and hope and has been a real light in the dark in difficult times. Hearing her speak to podcaster Katy Hessel about the women who inspired her should be a real treat. Find the podcast here.

From The Studio

Lots going on this weekend, you can find me at Canopy Market today and tomorrow, and it looks like a sunny one! I’m sure you will have seen that I’m having a flash sale, I don’t often offer discounts but I really feel like we’ve all earned it this year. I’ve also updated my new collection diary which you can find on my instagram highlights. I’m actually a little further on than the diary and I have a few videos ready to post but I find it so hard sharing them, it’s such a vulnerable part of the process when things aren’t quite going to plan. If you’d like to check out the story so far, you can do that here.
