Ethics and Sustainability
Making anything presents us with a set of responsibilities to consider how our choices affect the world around us.
This is a journey that is never finished, there is always more we can do. Here’s what I have in place so far:
All metal used on pieces designed from 2021 is recycled. This is 100% recycled silver and brass, including chains, earring posts and scrolls and jump rings.
Everything is made in my studio apart from findings (this is chains, jump rings and earring posts and scrolls). For these I use suppliers who manufacture in the UK so I can be sure the workers are protected by strong labour laws.
Boxes are made from recycled board, in the UK and are recyclable.
Paper elements such as business cards, care cards and tissue paper are made from recycled paper.
Jesmonite is an eco-friendly resin, meaning that is non-toxic and VOC free, it is water based and its components are sourced locally to where it is produced in Nottingham.
My studio is powered by renewable electricity
I reuse all metal offcuts and as much Jesmonite as possible (in terrazzo pots!)
I have reduced my use of harmful chemicals in the studio - substituting traditional pickle for citric acid for example.
