Sunday Sketchbook
Welcome to my Sunday Sketchbook, this week I’ve found some beautiful art, a place to add to your travel pinterest board and an exciting development in the world of architecture. Here in the studio I’ve been working hard on the new collection, skip to the end for a sneak peak.
Matt Shilian
As a lover of all things geometric, I’m a huge fan of the work of paper artist Matt Shilian who has a beautiful retrospective book of his work out at the moment. You can also browse through his work on his comprehensive website. His work is intricate and beautifully crafted, and there’s something very calming about the ordered nature of the patterns he creates.
The Valley Of Fire
Even the name of this place sounds exciting! I’ve been indulging in a little bit of armchair travelling this week and I came across this beautiful nature reserve in Nevada. When the sun hits the stone it glows pink, giving it the name Valley of Fire. The ripples of colour in the rock are absolutely gorgeous. For an inspiring ten minutes, this blog has a beautifully photographed guide to the highlights of this amazing area.
Boulder House
To me this house looks a bit like a termites nest, and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s actually a new way of creating affordable housing - this house was 3D printed. I think it’s such a great way to make homes that can be both very personal to whoever lives in them and accessible. This is the first 3D printed house approved to live in, you can watch a video of it being made and see the end results here.
From The Studio
Here’s a little sneak peak of some test castings for the new collection, you might notice some inspiration from the Valley of Fire!
I’m also on the move again! I’ll be back at Canopy Market next weekend on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. You can find all the details on place and time here.
