Inspiration and Process

For this collection I fell in love with geological formations, coastlines, fault lines and river beds. I collected local specimens from the fascinating area around Clevedon, where one type of rock intrudes into another creating veins of colour. I wanted to recreate these patterns and contrasts in the brass and marble jesmonite.

The start of the process for each piece is a unique drawing which is transferred to silver and cut out by hand. The sheet and wire elements are constructed in my studio, and filled with hand dyed marble jesmonite. Once the jesmonite is sanded back and polished, it reveals its patterns of dots and jagged curves.

Details

The circle measures 20mm in diameter and is hung from a 24” sterling silver curb chain. Each unique design is made up from dots and curves of shiny metal and deep blue jesmonite touched with white to hint at waves tips or stars.

Made from recycled brass, this pendant has great sustainable credentials as the metal is part of an established process of circular reuse. The chain is made from recycled sterling silver, in the UK. Jesmonite is an eco-friendly (non-toxic and VOC free) resin mixed with a natural mineral aggregate designed to look like marble.

Packaging and Care

Everything from Promises Promises comes hand-wrapped in bespoke packaging, perfect for giving (especially to yourself!). Each piece is wrapped in my own design tissue paper inside a branded box. A storage pouch for safekeeping and a care pack with polish pad will keep your piece looking like new.

To keep your brass piece looking shiny, store it in the pouch or box provided and polish from time to time with the pad provided. When your piece arrives, it is protected with a micro-crystalline wax which will keep it looking brand new for longer. The jesmonite section can be cleaned using a soft toothbrush, warm water and washing up liquid.

Commissions

Love the piece but want a different metal, chain length or stone colour? It’s all possible, head here and leave the details of your perfect piece to get more information on the price and timeline of a commission.

About The Maker

I set up Promises Promises in 2014 as a brand for the jewellery I was creating while working in London in the fashion industry. Since then I’ve been a jeweller full-time, creating innovative eco-friendly jewellery from precious metals and jesmonite, collaborating with Laphroaig, the Science Museum and the British Library and selling in shops across the world. In 2020 I moved back West, gaining new inspiration from the landscape around me. Now I create small collections of hand-made jewellery, based on the things I love and crafted in my Bristol home studio.
