Sunday Sketchbook

Happy Sunday! I was really pleased to see that Grayson Perry also loved Yinka Ilori’s chairs and featured them in the new series of Art Club which I am also a huge fan of. This weekend the huge craft show Collect is on, so I wanted to bring you my favourite discoveries so far.

Sarah Davolio

I love the delicacy of this piece, the fronds feel like they are floating up off the surface. The blue edging really highlights the organic lines drawn by the clay. You can find out more about Sarah’s work here.

Hattori Makiko

The texture on this piece is incredible, I love the way the detailed petal like surface decoration contrasts with the chunky, organic form of the vase. tt makes me think of moss growing over a stone. There’s something about it that feels soft but solid. Find out more here.

Halima Cassell

I love a bit of solid geometry and Halima’s work is a beautiful example of this, her chunky forms are so satisfying to look at, this is one of those that i’d just love to touch as well! Find out more here.

Holly Suzanna Clifford

I am a huge fan of maps so this piece really spoke to me, the contours rising up to create the 3D form drawn by the flat lines. I also love resin, this green is gorgeous! Find out more about Holly’s work here.

Phoebe Cummings

There’s something about this piece that highlights the fragility as well as the beauty of the natural forms it shows. The natural grey colour of the clay makes it feel like a fossil, capturing a moment caught between bloom and decay before it’s lost forever. See more of Phoebe’s work here.

From The Studio

I’ve had one of those weeks where I don’t feel like I’ve made much progress! The new collection still feels very unfinished, my to-do list doesn’t seem to have got any shorter and there’s still pieces on the bench that needs finishing. If anyone else is having one of those weeks, I came across this podcast on procrastinating that’s very useful!
